The ‘Thouryathrikam’ Award is an endeavour of the Sopanam Vadyakala Sangham to recognise and honour the outstanding contribution of artists in the field of traditional percussion arts of Kerala. This award was instituted in 2016 and consists of Dakshina (honorarium), statuette and citation. The statuette was designed by eminent artist Shri. V. R. Sathyadev and was sculpted by Shri. Mukkaattukara Kizhakoott Raju. The award-committee consisting of Padmashri Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar, Shri. Santhosh Kailas and other artists, carefully select the recipients from a group of remarkable artists. These awards are conferred purely based on the artists’ lifetime contribution to the traditional percussion arts of Kerala and do not require any application for the same.
